DIY All Natural Coffee & Sugar Scrub
Store bought skin care products as well as household cleaners are filled with a wide variety of toxins, carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, dyes, allergens, fragrances and irritants.
Don't believe me? You can find out what you really put on your skin by running your favorite products against Environmental Working Group database.
When I first used this database, I was shocked and utterly disturbed by how little I knew on what was inside the products I was buying and using on daily basis (deodorants were especially concerning as well as hair dyes, shampoos and soaps).
Since that day (which was about 3 years ago) I got rid of anything in my house that had heavy metals, toxins or generally any form of chemicals in it.
I either replaced it with an all-natural product or a DIY product.
That brings me to this recipe below.
This Coffee & Sugar Scrub is super-simple, chemical-free, effective and takes only 3 minutes to make.
I've been making and using it for over a year now and it became a staple in my beauty regiment alongside my DIY toner (recipe here).
I love how it feels, smells and leaves my skin super soft. Definitely better than anything I ever bought in the store. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
1/2 cup organic sugar
1/4 cup organic ground coffee
2 TBS organic coconut oil
2 TBS castor oil (optional)
Mix all the ingredients and transfer to an air-tight container, preferably glass.
Why those ingredients?
Coconut Oil – natural moisturizer
Castor Oil – natural astringent oil that is great for skin tone, pigmentation, fine lines, acne, dark circles and more
Coffee- caffeine tightens and stimulates the skin; it is often used in anti-aging products and anti-cellulite products
Sugar- natural exfoliant
I use it on daily while I'm taking a shower. I use it mostly on my face but you can easily use it all over the body. If your skin is very sensitive I would start with a small dose 2-3 times a week.
The amount of scrub made from this recipe lasts me at least 3 months.
