DIY All-Natural, Deep Pore Cleansing Clay & Charcoal Mask

After I came back from Poland I started to research all sorts of clays used in face masks and body wraps. At the time, I was also playing around with using activated charcoal pills as a natural way to help with stomach discomfort and gas after eating. Apparently you can put those two ingredients together, and make a really easy, yet powerfully cleansing facial mask.

Activated charcoal (with it adsorbing properties, i.e. it binds to toxins, chemicals, etc.) has been used for years to treat poisonings, intestinal gas, nausea, diarrhea and bile flow issues during pregnancy. But activated charcoal also works wonders for the skin when applied topically: it keeps skin clear by acting as a magnet to draw dirt out of pores.

Bentonite clay also acts as a magnet to draw dirt from the pores. High-quality bentonite clay can be ingested to pull toxins from the body. When applied topically, it absorbs toxins, draws out blackheads, and kills acne-causing bacteria.

Here's how the process looked like.

From left:

- right after application

- 30 minutes after

- after rinsing it off - face is slightly blushed and feels very clean

Give it a try, it's been really fun making it! I will be doing this weekly.

DIY, all-natural, pore cleansing clay & charcoal face mask.

In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients using a plastic or a wooden utensil until it forms into a smooth paste. Apply evenly onto a clear skin (wash with a mild cleanser beforehand) avoiding sensitive areas such as eyes and lips.

I let the mask sit for about 30 minutes, but you can go as low as 10 minutes.

When the mask is drying you will feel your whole face tightening. You may also experience moments when your whole face will pulsate. That's totally normal. If the mask starts to feel itchy and uncomfortable, wash it off.

Wash it off with warm water, or cotton pads soaked in warm water. I try to remove the excess with the cotton pads and throw it in the garbage as the clay may clog your drains.

Apply all-natural moisturizer (I did 100% Argan Oil) or let your skin breathe.

Your face will look flashed for about 30 minutes.
